Talent is universal. Opportunity is not.

Nestled within the Chibvuti SDA Camp in Goromonzi, the school serves just 120 students with five dedicated teachers who work tirelessly to educate every learner from Forms One to Five. On paper, those numbers tell only part of the story. What they cannot capture is the determination of the people behind them.

When our team visited Chibvuti Secondary School, we expected to better understand the needs of a rural learning environment as we prepared for our upcoming CodeOne workshops. What we discovered instead was something far more inspiring. We met teachers who continue to deliver quality education despite having limited resources. We met students who spoke confidently about their dreams for the future. We met a community that refuses to allow geography to define its potential.

The school itself has humble beginnings.

Before the first classroom block was built through the support of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, lessons were held beneath a tree. Today, the school operates from a single block of four classrooms, with teachers rotating between rooms and teaching multiple subjects across the entire school. A solar-powered borehole now provides water, land has been prepared for future expansion, and thousands of donated bricks sit waiting for the day construction can begin on additional learning facilities.

Despite this progress, significant challenges remain. The school has no electricity, limiting opportunities for digital learning and technology integration. Students travel approximately eight kilometres to another school simply to sit for their examinations, creating additional financial and logistical burdens for families.

These are realities that many communities across Zimbabwe continue to face. Yet nowhere during our visit did we encounter hopelessness. We encountered possibility.

One of the most memorable moments came during our discussions about technology and artificial intelligence. Like many rural schools, Chibvuti has had limited exposure to emerging digital technologies. Yet the students' curiosity was remarkable. Questions flowed throughout the session as they explored how artificial intelligence could be used to solve real-world problems and create opportunities for their communities.

Perhaps the most powerful moment came when two students volunteered to stand before their peers and speak about the importance of artificial intelligence and technology. That moment reinforced something we have believed for a long time. The ambition in rural communities like this one is obvious. What's missing is opportunity.

At One Foundation, we believe where a child is born should never determine the quality of education they receive or the opportunities they are exposed to. Our mission has always been to reach communities that are too often overlooked simply because they lack access to opportunity.

Across Zimbabwe, there are schools just like Chibvuti, led by passionate educators, filled with students who have extraordinary ideas, and supported by communities determined to build a better future. What they need is greater access to knowledge, mentorship and the tools that are shaping tomorrow's world.

That belief is what led us to create CodeOne.

CodeOne is our education initiative designed to help bridge the digital divide by introducing learners and educators to the technologies transforming industries across the globe. More importantly, it aims to make those technologies understandable, accessible and relevant regardless of where a school is located.

Rather than relying on expensive computer laboratories or large quantities of equipment, CodeOne has been designed with accessibility at its core.Using as little as a smartphone and a projector, we are developing an AI-powered teaching assistant capable of transforming an ordinary classroom into an interactive learning environment. Through voice interaction, computer vision and intelligent lesson support, teachers can introduce complex concepts in engaging and practical ways while requiring only minimal technology.

Technology should not be reserved for schools with the biggest budgets. Innovation should reach every classroom.

During our visit, another important conversation emerged.

While much attention is rightly given to supporting students, teachers themselves are often overlooked. Many educators expressed a strong desire to continue their professional development and pursue further education, yet financial barriers frequently make those opportunities difficult to access.

Supporting education means supporting educators. When teachers are empowered with new skills and new technologies, every learner who enters their classroom benefits. That is why CodeOne has been designed not only for students, but also as a practical teaching companion that helps educators confidently embrace digital learning.

Our visit to Chibvuti showed us everything the school already possesses: resilient teachers, curious students, a supportive community, and an unwavering belief that education can change lives. Those qualities cannot be measured in infrastructure alone, yet they are the foundations upon which lasting change is built.

As One Foundation continues its work across Zimbabwe, Chibvuti Secondary School serves as a reminder of why our mission matters. There is extraordinary talent in every corner of our country. Our responsibility is to ensure that talent is given the opportunity to flourish.

This is only the beginning of our journey with Chibvuti, and we look forward to returning with long-term partnerships that equip students and teachers alike with the knowledge, confidence and digital skills needed to shape the future. Every child deserves the chance to participate in the world they will inherit and every community deserves to be part of building it.
